Duck Breed Focus - Indian Runner

bethkitty, welcome to BYC! I've had a duckling pip through the shell on a Saturday and complete the hatch the Tuesday early morning only. It was malpositioned, so needed a little assisting, but it was fine. Just needed a LOT of time before it was ready to come out

Them ducks take their sweet time when they hatch. Don't worry yet!

HELP PLEASE ... I have commented on other but no one has replied and for first time hatching runners I am very very anxious .... please look at this photo of one of my runner eggs ... it cheeps every now and again but isn't making progress ... it is now day 30

Where is your humidty at??

Very important right now to keep the humidity up. Do not open the incubator!!! That little skin the covers the inside if the egg can dry out very quickly and the duckling could get stuck.

HE is still attached ... he hatched fully yesterday afternoon .. the cord is slowly thinning and going brown ...
I've been giving him vitamins every few hours ... he's chirping lots and desperate to move ... even though he looks weak he doesn't sound weak ... what should my next step be?

You can take a clean pair of scissors and carefully snip that cord that's attached to the egg still. Be careful, don't pull on it. The bit attached to it's navel will come off soon-soon.

When I went to cut it is stopped as I saw this ...

It seems like a cloud of blood under the surface ?

Went to cut his cord as it's shrivelled up but when I did go to cut it is see this .. is this the cord and do I cut through this? Thank you so much

What I would do now if find the source of the bleeding, dab a little cornstarch on it to stop it and keep the little one as still as possible and keep that cord/navel area damp until everything looks a bit more absorbed and settled. I am in two minds about detaching/cutting that cord now, as I can't see where the blood is coming from and how severe it is… I'm sorry it looked dryer in the previous pic.

He needs to be cleaned off, he has poop and pea on his cord. Lower that humidity let that cord SHRINK UP
