Duck convulsions not sure whats going on?? SICK DUCK????

Niacin and poultry vitamins are pretty in expensive please consider using these for your duckling it usually only takes 2-4 days to notice improvement. Hoping for the best.

If you decide to try niacin along be sure to ask for plain niacin not time released or flush free.

Well I've been giving her vitamins and I picked up some activated charcoal and also gave that too her just in case.

She definitely seems better. She walking better but she's still off balance. She also quacking too. It's not her usual raspy quack that she has but I'm happy she's quacking none the less. She's eating and drinking fine. Overall she doing better and on a scale of 1 - 10. I'd say she's about a 5 right now. The 1 being the convulsions and head flopping she was doing the other day. I just hope she's gonna keep getting better and back to her happy self.

I hate to say it but I've become attached to her. Well both really but more so the poor sick one.

Improvement is always good and encouraging, keep up with the vitamins I think Amiga said once that too much activated charcoal can cause constipation so don't over do with it.
Keep the up dates coming.

Ok how much charcoal should I give her? Today if the third day I've been giving it to her. Also, there very little improvement from my last update. I'd say maybe a 6 now. I had her walking around the kitchen and her balance is definitely off. She would stretch and flap her wings and go off balance and fall back. She walk slow and you can see that she off.

I haven't given her any antibiotics just the vitamins and charcoal. I need to get more vitamins tomorrow. Is there anything else I should get for her?

I would time the charcoal and vitamins 12 hours apart, since the charcoal may absorb some of the vitamins as well.

As far as amount of charcoal, I think a teaspoon in a pint of water would not be too much to give daily.

We don't know if she may have some kind of infection. Some infections produce toxins, and the activated charcoal could be pulling toxins from that out of her system, but if she still has an infection, she's still being stressed.

Ducks can fight off infections, but I don't have a way of knowing if that is what we are dealing with here.

One option to consider is going more on the vitamins, backing off on the charcoal and seeing if there is more improvement. Do her feces smell normal? Any extra warmth in her bill or feet? Trying to think of any signs of infection you might be able to detect.

Ok great! That's about as much charcoal as I have been giving her probably a little less but close anyway. I've been giving her both the vitamins and charcoal together I'll try separating them and doing times like you said. I haven't been looking at her feces and as far as temperature on the bill and feet. The bill is fine and her feet are warm but not hot like a fever. How long should I give her charcoal, until I see her back to normal? Or until I see a more positive progression.

I think a few days should pull any toxins out of her system. Not a vet, here, just trying to put together what I know and what I can guess from a distance. Charcoal is to pull out toxins.

It may be more of a vitamin deficiency. In any case, I would keep up with the vitamins for a longer period of time because they help ducks grow and heal. Not too much in the vitamin department, but daily niacin, and then once a week wider spectrum multi vitamins seems to work for many of us.

I have not been giving my ducks any niacin. I give them duck pellets, just started with ff but they are not impressed so far and ACV in their water weekly. I have two Pekins. Should I be giving them additional niacin?
thanks
