Duck Egg Candling Photo Diary

Quote:
I have some on the camera now - I won't be sure whether or not they actually came out until I get them up on the computer screen and fiddle with the brightness and the colors. That's my project for after dinner tonight!

I've been distracted because I've got another 'bator up and running now with Bantam Cochin eggs on Day 4.

They were shipped, so I'm dying to know if they're going to develop.

can anyone tell me how big the air sac should be with 10 days left of incubation... in centimetres would be beneficial as I do not know if my air sacs are big enough...

I am on day 14 or 15. I also have some that are questionable. All are moving tho. I did have to get rid on one yesterday that had quit. It leaves me 10 in the bator and I need to candle under the goose again.. woops... this is about ducks.. sorry, My ducks hatched and I am on to geese now. Still... I have questions about the air sac on a few of them

moving... i have not noticed my moving but i dont really focus on the ducks themselves when candling just the air sac...

i may go and check now just to make sure they are fine... had bumped the temp up but was reading today that they may hatch early which would not be good at all so now its on the cool side of 37.1 degress c instead of 37.3... have not got ducks so will not be happy if they all die... not happy at all...

thanks very much...

tried to candle them today but even with curtains closed was still too bright to see through the duck shell...

later on could prove more fruitful

A little tip - shine the light through the wider end of the egg (the air sac side) and you can see inside the egg pretty much the entire duration of incubation.

yep been doing that since day 8... the time has flown past... remember thinking that 28 days was way to long and now im trying to delay the hatching day so that my eggs can lose a bit more water...

first time hatching eggs as you can obviously tell...

Yep - I actually have already mentioned that in the original post.

Still, even doing it that way, the pictures just don't come out once you're about halfway through the incubation period.
