Hello! We found this abandoned duck egg and put it in an incubator for about 2 weeks now. Because we found it abandoned, we’re not sure how long it had been since it was laid before finding it or if it’s alive. I have a few pictures of 2 weeks of being in the incubator if anyone can tell if it looks good or bad. Please let me know, thanks! (We’ve never hatched eggs, chickens or ducks, before so we really have no idea if it’s alive. But, we’d like to hatch chickens some day in the future, so this will hopefully be good experience.)

Hi, does the little black thing in the egg float/move around at all? If you see movement it’s probably still alive. Are there veins in the egg? Were did you find the egg?

Yes, when I move the egg the little black thing moves around. That’s good to know, thanks! About the veins, I’m not so sure. When I candle the egg, I can see lines that circle around the shell but they don’t look like other people’s pictures. They don’t look like branches. As for where we found it, it was in my backyard. We have a pool (partially drained and hasn’t been cleaned, so it’s kind of like a little pond) I’ve see seen ducks land there for a while but didn’t think anything of it. We have dogs that hang outside every so often so I’m afraid they must have scared off the parents. The egg also wasn’t in a nest so this also made me skeptical of it even being alive. Thanks!

From how old it is and they fact that there are no veins and it doesn’t move around, it sounds like it’s not alive :( I’m so sorry
