Duck Eggs in Lockdown - Peeping but no pips?

Pics
I have never seen an air cell at the small end. :idunno Not saying it's impossible, just not likely or not common (like you said ).

I had one chicken egg last season. The air cell was clearly in the small end. I didn’t catch it when I originally set them (just assumed the air cell was too small and set it with large end up). I think it was around 7-10 days when I was doing a quick candle and noticed the entire topside was covered with veining. I flipped it, but this killed the developing chick that was so active before. A couple days later it was a blood ring.

I’ve also hatched a Swedish hen with the air cell on the side. When I found it in the beginning, I positioned the egg with the air cells up, but leaning, hoping it would grow into the large end. It never did, but it pipped properly and hatched without intervention.
