So I have 3 blue Swedish hens and they are 27 weeks old. They have been laying eggs for a few weeks but randomly. Do get 1-2 each morning. Today I got 2 in the coop this morning and then this afternoon when I got home from work there was another one by the water bowl. So a total of 3 hard shell eggs. I went to go put them up around 7pm this evening and there were 2 soft shelled eggs by the water bowl. I thought by now they would have the kinks worked out and all be laying hard shell eggs by morning. I also have 2 drakes. How long before they are on the same schedule and all laying hard shell eggs?

Thanks! Do you think having only 3 hens and 2 drakes is ok? I am new to ducks and I was thinking I may need to get 2 more hens. I see their neck feathers always standing up but no sores that I can see.

X2! Kind of late in the season now, but I imagine by next year it will be worse than it was this year. The more females to keep the maniacs occupied the better, or be prepared with a back up plan of separating your drakes from the hens.

Thanks! Yes I have another pen I can move the two drakes into if needed. Should I separate them at night time too?
