so I have a Muscovy duck a little over a year old. She has always had more of a waddle than my other duck almost like something was wrong but she never let it slow her down so I figured that just the way she walks. I went on vacation recently and the person that was watching my animals said she wouldn’t move or get up to go on her house for the night. So they picked her up and put her in her house. In the morning she was the same walk a little then fall over and not move. They put her in a kennel with food and water right next to her in the shade. It was 118 degrees in California this weekend so I thought maybe she over heated. I got home two days later I got home and she looks fine. Eating and drinking normal but she was still falling over. I put her in a pen in the shade with lots of water puddles and food to contain her to a smaller area for her to be safe from predators and for observation. It’s been 3 days now she seems like she’s walking around more but if she moves to fast she falls down?? I’m not sure if she hurt her leg or I was reading something about calcium deficiency or b12 or niacin deficiency. Any suggestions would help these are my first ducks.

It sounds like a vitamin deficiency.
Some ducks seemed to just fine on regular chicken feed. Others need a little more vitamin supplements. I would get some Nutritional yeast (niacin) to add to her feed and make sure she has oyster shell available. She could be losing calcium in her bones from laying and her body is having hard time replacing it.
Also Niacin is needed, because they grow so fast and it helps strengthen their leg bones as the grow so they can hold their own body weight.

I don't know that the layer feed would have enough niacin. You might want to try supplementing with brewer's yeast (found in the seasoning section at stores) or liquid b complex found at tsc or otc at Walmart.

So I get regular niacin vitamin for ppl? And how
Much do give?

The niacin and liquid b complex how do I know how much to give
It depends on what brand of niacin you buy. I she were mine, I would go to Walmart and buy the sublingual liquid vitamin b complex in the vitamin section. Then give her about 3-5 dropper fulls a day. You can put it in treats is the easiest way I’ve found. Just so that you are giving her around 100mgs of niacin a day. The other b vitamins that are in the complex are also excellent for their health. Give it to her everyday for a week. Then once she’s acting better, you can give it to her in her feed every now and again. Buying the niacin tablets and crushing up the whole bottle at once, then sprinkling it on their feed. Or you can buy the nutritional yeast and sprinkle it on their feed. But I would get the liquid since she’s likely deficient at this point. Then you can give the yeast as a preventative in the future. If you have questions, let us know. There is always someone online to respond to you.:D
