DUCK FOOD ? where to buy

What I've read...........ducklings from birth to 3 weeks , need 20% protein. Then from 3-8 or so weeks, need 16% protein. On the Mazuri website, the starter is 20%, the breeder is 17%, the maintenance is 14%.

I had a 5 week old ancona develop angel wing on flockraiser 20%. I switched to half/half mazuri maintenance (14%) with purina unmedicated start n grow (18%), and wrapped my boy's wing for 5 days. You'd never know he had a problem to see him now.

Thanks everyone. I'm going to town in a few hours to gather up food with the correct protein amount in it. I'm really, really loving my two Pekins. I want to order some ducks from Holderreads but 10 is the minimum and I'm not sure if I want 10 all at one time. Maybe 5. It would be nice to have someone living near Atlanta to share an order with.

Graceful Acres, At that age the ducks should be getting 16% protein.

If wings are drooping and sagging, get them outside into the sunshine where they can exercise their wings and get some vitamin D. You'll have to adjust the amount of time outside according to your weather, and don't leave them where they can't get out of direct sun.

If the wingtips are already turning out and away from the body, you might want to tape them in the correct position for a couple of days.

Iain Utah,
I finally located the Mazuri maintenance (30 minutes from me.) And also I located a small bag of the Purina start & grow. My hubby
is headed out to do errands and is going to pick both up for me. As far as the wings go, I only notice it on one of the ducklings. The other one tucks their wings pretty good and nothing pokes out but the one looks like it has a little problem.

DOES anyone know where I can buy the "vet wrap" that is shown in the pictures on how to take care of angel wing?

BY THE WAY......................I love this forum. Nothing like experienced people to help you get through

I decided to go with Purina flock raiser since I have a mixed flock of chicks and ducklings. So far everyone is happy and healthy. Oh and I get it from TSC for $14- $16for a 50 pound bag depending if I have a coupon with me.

The breeder wouldn't be nutritionally balanced for ducklings. I use Mazuri waterfowl, too. Right now I have my 2 week old ducklings on the starter, but will start to mix in oats and other veggies, greens, etc. to cut the total protein levels a bit. Mazuri says that you can feed the starter until you switch to the maintenance, though.

Be careful about abruptly switching foods. I would gradually switch them over from the old to the new food so they don't have any digestive problems.

I noticed the Mazuri waterfowl breeder food has 17% protein. Are my duckys too young to eat the breeder food? I wished I would have asked these questions a few weeks ago :(
