Duck hatch-a-long october/november!!!!!! come join!

I know!! I'm dying because they are so TINY and I have call ducks incubating that the eggs are HALF the size of these guys eggs!
Wow! Those will really be some eensy ducklings! Bet they'll be darling. That one surely does look much lighter spotted than the others, so maybe it will be a "special" color.

Either way they are really lovely babies. I hope I get some different colors, but so long as I get some live babies I'll take whatever colors I get of course.

It is so exciting when everyone has babies hatching!

I went to check on the Creme Legbars this morning and 3 more had hatched. 2 girls and a boy. So I think I have 5 boys and 3 girls. 2 eggs I checked yesterday and didn't see any movement so I opened them up. They were almost ready to hatch, had almost all of the yolk absorbed (and I think they where both girls). They probably didn't make it due to the power outage. 1 was shrink wrapped and I tried to help it out but it didn't make it. I still have one small egg that is trying to hatch. I decided to make a little crack in it to see what was going on, and to make sure it could breath. It seems to have partially shrink wrapped on one side. On that side it still has blood vessels so I will give it more time. I hope it is a girl.

If its still alive peel off as much egg shell as possible that is in the airspace area (avoid the membrane around the chick) get a q-tip and warm water and wet down the membrane, do that every two hours to prevent shrink wrapping and to monitor whether or not the membrane is absorbed. I had to do that with my ducks.

^^^^unabsorbed.

^^^ 4 hours later (had pulled out at 2 hrs and it still needed more time) this time absorbed and ready to pop out. I peeled back the membrane, pulled the beak out, put it back in the bator and let it kick the egg shell off itself

Oh and when you go to peel off the membrane make a small tear and use the qtip to peel it back away from the chick. If it starts to bleed, apply pressure so it stops and put it back in the bator and try again later.

Such a cool process to see. I was so stressed but its really amazing to see the inner workings!
