Duck hatch-a-long october/november!!!!!! come join!

How can you tell if it has internally pipped without candling?   This will be my first hatch ever, mine go into lockdown on Tuesday.  Other than listening for noise, watching for movement, and the final obviously external pip, what else should I be looking for?

I candle mine to check for internal pip. I even get mine out after they've externally pipped if they don't seem to be making progress. However, I have an incubator that returns to temp/humidity quickly, plus I live in Florida where the humidity is out of control so I don't worry about shrink wrapping.

If 24 hrs hits after external pip with no improvement then I help them out. There's so much room for human error with incubating and I won't let one die because of my mistakes.

BUT helping a Duckie out is really tedious and time consuming. So if you think you need to help them out ask how to do it if you haven't done it before. Once you do it once your golden for the rest :)

Looks way too dark to be Ancona. The green/blue Ancona eggs I've gotten are a lot lighter than that. I'm guessing mallard, and CONGRATS!!!! That's awesome :)

It occured to me after I asked that they probably can't make noise (cheep? quack?) if they haven't internally pipped since they would have to be breathing to make noise. Do ducklings peep while in the egg? I know my ducklings made noise when I got them, but they were a few days old at that point.

I will definitely be asking on here if there appear to be any issues, or before I interfere.
