Duck hatch-a-long october/november!!!!!! come join!

It occured to me after I asked that they probably can't make noise (cheep? quack?) if they haven't internally pipped since they would have to be breathing to make noise. Do ducklings peep while in the egg? I know my ducklings made noise when I got them, but they were a few days old at that point.

I will definitely be asking on here if there appear to be any issues, or before I interfere.
Our khaki campbells peeped like a chick until they got about the age to be ready to move outside. Then they sort of did a peep-quack for a while before they finally decided to just quack. It was soooo funny when they first started to quack a little. They'd be like peep peep peeppeep QUACK, and then look so startled that they made that noise.

It was priceless.

After they internally pipp if you put the egg up to your ear you can hear a "clicking" sound. After they externally pip you can actually hear them peeping.

Well I lost one. Came home last night and he had started zipping, I noticed that his beak was ripped, and he had fluid coming out of his nose. I immediately got him out of the egg, he was completely absorbed, I have no idea where the liquid came from. I used my daughters bulb sucker to clear his nostrils. I thought it worked, he was moving great and I couldn't see anymore fluid. About an hour later I went in there and he was seizing, I held him while he died. I seriously hate hatching. The other one is alive and well and now snuggled up with a beanie baby until the call ducks hatch next week.

I am so sorry he didn't make it.

Seems like it is harder to lose them if they make it out of the shell alive than if they just don't make it to hatch.

Wt color did ur lonly baby come out as?

I think black/white.

Yes it definitely is. I've had fully developed ducklings quit in shell and that wasn't nearly this bad. I feel so sorry for the little guy.

Wow!! Glad that I found this thread. What kind of flashlight and how bright? I was checking my hen's eggs yesterday and some I could not even see through; others were transparent.

Love the picture of the duckling with the chicken...so sweet :)
