They are adorable!!! I'm so glad they are doing well =)

How are ur babies doing? Ready for another hatch? My anconas should be hatching in about a week or so!!
That's so great! I'm so glad to hear that! My babies are doing great! I let them run around my living room today and my 19 month old twin daughters were belly laughing so hard at them! I am definitely already looking into eggs for my next hatch. Either Anconas or some good brown egg laying chickens like sex links or RIR. I also want to do quail for meat but I'm not sure if I will be able to follow through with processing them if I hatch them. I may be too attached! Lol

Wait until after Christmas to get eggs. I ordered from 4 different places and not doing too good. My first batch of Anconas looks like NONE are fertile. Second batch is looking like the same. Wait until fertility goes back up otherwise throwing away money. My calls aren't doing too bad. Still very low fertility though. 3 out of 11 and 1 out of 4.

Oh wow! Thank you. That's good to know. I probably won't order anything until after new years since I will be out of town that week. I might try quail next. I found someone here in my home town I'll be purchasing from. I live in the valley of California and our winters are very mild.

Is this typical of ducks going into the winter? I set 21 eggs from my ducks back in Sept, had some hatching issues I believe due to some power outages, but 20 of the 21 eggs were fertile. 3 weeks ago I set another 21 eggs, and this time only 1/2 of them were fertile.

The only other thing that changed was that I did get some new drakes (Welsh Harlequin) shortly before setting the first batch. I assumed at the time they fertilized all the eggs but I guess it's possible some of them were fertilized by semen stored from the Indian Runner drakes I had previous had in with the girls.

It's typical of most birds during the winter. Fertility goes down. Ducks specifically molt and eggs aren't fertile when they are in molt.

My problem may have been shipping though. The eggs were all sent 2 day priority but didn't arrive for 4 days, and one batch 7 days,

I had 9 duck eggs shipped to me across country and 7 were fertile. The other two I'm not sure because the yolks had broke in the egg so they very well may have been fertile also. This was my first hatch so I feel good about getting the 4 that I did get. 1 was lost mid - incubating. 1 was lost due to what I believe was some kind of bacteria infection. 1 was lost because it got shrink wrapped and I waited too long to intervene. All in all I was happy with the results since I only paid $16 total for the 9 eggs.

Yes that is a great result for shipped eggs.

I have spent $70 on eggs from 4 different locations, and I only have 4 still growing. Lol. Not so lucky. But I have calls and Anconas, both are typically more expensive breeds. So it's just luck of the draw.

I'm waiting now and just bulk ordering ducklings in the spring.
