Duck hatch-a-long october/november!!!!!! come join!

Okay guys. Today is day 7. I just sat in my closet and candled. All of the eggs I got locally are clear :( I think maybe her drake is either infertile or not covering her ladies. 6 of the khaki Campbell eggs and the one Indian runner all have veining, but it's not on the side like I've always seen in the pictures, it's up at the top by the air cell. I'm hoping they're okay. One of the KC eggs has a blood ring. :(

Are they in an upright turner? If so, that's why you are seeing the veining at the top.

They're in egg cartons, so I guess that makes sense. I had just never seen that in the candling pictures I've looked at. I'm not 100% sure the one is a blood ring, should I keep it in another week or take it out? I don't want it to explode on me.

Leave it in, it won't be at risk for exploding unless it starts to turn black.

Okie dokie. I'm honestly sad about the local eggs being duds, and I'm kinda shocked the shipped eggs are doing so well *knocks on wood*

It's always luck of the draw. I bought a dozen hatching eggs locally for $40 from what I thought was a reputable farm. Only two started and only one hatched. The others were infertile. They told me they stood behind their fertility and that I must be incubating wrong (NOT).

Then I've ordered eggs shipped, twice from same person. 1st time got 100% hatch rate, 2nd time none even started. Luck of the draw!!

Which is why this spring I am ordering live ducklings. This past year I've spent around $200 on dud eggs, plus had predators get into my flock and kill $300 worth of ducks. Lol, I try not to think about it.

Are their ducks molting? I had 100% fertility from my ducks in early/mid Oct. Didn't all hatch due to some incubator issues but they were all fertile. Set another bunch in late Nov, had about 30% fertility. Someone on BYC mentioned that when they start to molt fertility will go WAY down, even though the girls are still laying. I know they didn't seem as "frisky" as they had been but I hadn't really thought about it until my fertility went down.

Males are infertile during molt, they will still breed though, ha.
