Duck Injuries!!!

This is what her feet look like after a soak. She still uses the foot thats more yellow but one of the nails is breaking of her middle toe too.

Any way you can take her to the vet?

If the skin smells rotten then I would suspect infection. Frostbitten tissue will usually die and fall off on it's own, but when complicated with infection, then you may need to seek further care and antibiotic treatment.

As @chickens really mentions discontinue the use of Peroxide. You can soak in epsom salts, betadine, Chlorhexidine or soapy water using Dial soap. Apply some Vetericyn spray, triple antibiotic ointment or honey.

Try to keep them on clean dry bedding.

Not sure if my vet will be any help they dont deal with poultry but Ill be calling tomorrow. I can smell the infection I just hope its not too late. My husband will be finishing my farm hospital this spring, can't wait.

@BantyChooks is dealing with frost bite with one of her ducks I hope she sees this and can offer you some advise.


I wish I knew what would be best to treat her. I do know peroxide is not good to use after initial cleaning of a wound. Just as @chickens really mentiomed previously.

Oh my.... That looks real bad. Afraid I can't offer too much help.... Agree with others, vet is best. Amputation may be required to save her life.

I feel so dumb. I should have know their was something else wrong. I have had ducks go down from just being too cold. So after I glanced at her feet I just got in the house and kenneled her. Please send positive thoughts for this girl. I am really scared of what the out come maybe.
