Duck Isn't Doing Very Well

Update: I just got back from the store and have put the duck feed in the bowl I've been feeding him out of and some in his duck house. He doesn't want it right now, as I just fed him earlier because I wasn't sure how long it was gonna be. But I will check on him later and see what he's up to.

I know something is wrong because usually when I come outside he runs to see me, but now he just stays in his pond or wherever he's sitting and quacks at me. Hopefully now he will make a full recovery after a week or two!

Update 2: So what we got was Purina Game Bird Chow Growth and Plumage. Is that okay for my duck? I'm starting to get worried again because I'm afraid it's not the right kind of food for him. It's not like I can do anything about it if it's the wrong thing but I want to know if he'll be okay. My parents have been buying it for him for a while so I dunno anymore. He seemed healthy before while he was eating it but I have no clue.

Also, one or two of you suggested I get another duck, but that's just not possible for us unfortunately. My parents said they are done having pets after the ones we have now. I know it's wrong because ducks are social animals, but there's nothing I can do, I don't really have much say in family matters. I try to spend a lot of time with him, but I doubt that's enough. I feel so bad.

Edit: It's also occurred to me that there's different kinds of growth and plumage feed in that brand. I dunno which one we got, but I'm really hoping that the store owner understood what kind of feed we were looking for as we told him it was an adult Pekin.

I'm having a hard time with the website at the moment. I don't think I can reply to anyone right now. But another update:

Narcissus is still tripping but less! Right now he's wandering around the yard looking for bugs to eat. He still won't go very far or even walk up to me when I come outside but I feel he's already making progress!

I think that feed is fine for him since he really needs somw good old fashion feed right now. When BYC gets the bugs worked out post a pic of the ingredients and nutrient content.

I am glad to hear he is acting like he feels better.

I’m glad your big guy seems to be doing better. What kind of stores do you have around you? A Walmart?Would your parents be ok with buying a bottle of vitamin b complex at Walmart? I believe it costs around $4.

It needs to be the liquid. This will get his legs nice and strong. The reason he’s having a hard time is the feed doesn’t have enough vitamin B3 (niacin) in it. And it’s more of a problem in Pekins than other breeds because of their large size. Once you get it, we can help you give it to him. It’s really easy.

If your parents can’t get this for you. Let us know and we can try to come up with another plan that hopefully you and your parents can be ok with. Don’t give up you are doing great. We can get him whole again!
