My duck Honey tragically passed away today in a freak accident. Honey and Bee were my only ducks, they were raised together and attached at the hip. I’m not sure what to do. I know she needs more flock mates, but i’m not sure if i should get ducklings, or look for another adult duck. I also don’t know how to help her. I don’t want her to go into a depression, because honestly I already am in one and can’t imagine what it must be like for her.

What type of accident? Did the other duck see it happen/was she there? I’d give her some sugar water or electrolytes, you can even give her some Gatorade, and try to make sure she’s eating and drinking. She definitely needs some more flock mate(s). I’d say look for an older female duck or a few female ducks, if your bird is also a female. Males can overmate just one female. I would not get young ducklings, although you could probably get older ones like say 2-3 months old, but that’s also my opinion. Good luck! And keep us posted!

We honestly don’t know how it happened, but she got stuck in a pile of bricks and was crushed. Bee definitely watched her die.

Aw, I'm so sorry about your duck! Good luck with your other duck! :hugs

Oh that’s awful! Sorry for your loss. I’d say Bee is probably in shock and very depressed. They are very sensitive critters and can get very depressed/lonely. I’d say probably look into getting more ducks or rehoming her to someone with ducks.

So, I reached out to one of my friends to rehome Bee because I just could not find any adult ducks to adopt. She then told me that she actually has a surplus of ducks and would be more than happy to give me a couple. So now I have to tackle introducing them to each other.

Ok sounds good! I would keep them in two separate areas but make sure they can see each other for… I can’t remember the timeline but maybe two weeks?

The new ducks have arrived! We have sectioned off their enclosure into two so they can see each other but not get at each other. Bee doesn’t seem thrilled, but I’m hoping she’ll warm up to them. I am wondering what type of duck this little white one is though. I was told she was a girl, so i’m thinking either appleyard or a mix of rouen and appleyard?
