Duck Pond Filter & Shower with lots of pictures.

If you use the wading pool that I did you may find that the ducks sometimes have trouble getting out. A couple of 15"x8"x 4" concrete paving stones placed flat in the water around the edge will solve that problem nicely.

Looks like my pump may be breaking down, but that doesn't surprise me since it's designed as a sump pump and not supposed to run 24-7. Yet another reason to buy the extended warranty from Harbor. I'm keeping my eye out for an affordable timer that will allow me to run the pump about 1 hour on and a 1/2 hour off. That would solve several issues.

One more hint if you're keeping chickens and ducks in the same run; don't put anything that the chickens can get on top of near the pool. They'll jump off, land in the pool and drown. We lost two because of that mistake before figuring it out.

We had several what for us are hard freezes here and the pond never froze over.
(Yes, contrary to what Hollywood would have you believe, we do get cold weather here in Texas. Much of the Battle of The Alamo was fought in cold and rainy weather.)

Love this! I ended up with Cayugas, Pekins and Indian Runners so for breeding I have them in their own runs. I will be giving each a pond. Some water will be diverted into the garden when it's time to dump. This will help us save water for the horses and goats too! Someone came up with a super filter which I will try to incorporate! My well thanks you!
