Duck Pond/pool pictures

Fast forward to 2009, another Mummy Duck or possibly the same one
Pond is now stabilising and the Water lilies well established.

Sadly we have not had any more wild Ducklings since
We did have two clutches of eggs this year both robbed out by predators and I think the Duck was taken as well as she was never seen again and then a few days later the Drake stopped looking for her and have not been seen since.

What we have had though are three clutches of Morhens this year
Morhens are amazing they chase the wild Rabbits all over the field and raid the Chicken coop for food!

Anyway the long term plan is now coming to fruition
This year we bought our first Domestic Ducks, eight of them 3 Silver Crested Appleyards and 5 Runners
We plan on getting some more in the spring. we can easily accomodate 20+
I am also erecting 2M high Stock fencing around the entire field to keep Foxes out.
I fancy getting some Geese as Lawn Mowers and one day would like some Rheas.

When I say we have not had any more ducklings that is as far as we know
Those that hatched in 2007 and 2009 were only on the pond for a day or so then I think the Duck marched them off elsewhere!

Oh and the thing in my Avitar is my Liver and White Dalmatian, she earned her dinner, well breakfast last week she chased a fox away.
which hastened the need to get my new fencing erected!

I use the tubs also and they are fantastic! I have a little pond that I dug next to the kiddie pool and lined both but had to scoop out the water every few days and refill. Now I'm scooping all of the water out for the winter and I like the idea of filling it with straw, but should I worry about rodents using those areas for a nest?
Oh yeah....and onother thing I do is take out a water jug with hot water in the morning to add to the tubs. I really don't dump the water out until the sun shines so it's not an ice rink for the ducks.
