Hi, I'm thinking about digging a duck pond and lining it with pvc pond liner.
https://www.amazon.com/TotalPond-po...TF8&qid=1533244396&sr=1-5&keywords=pond+liner
It's for two ducks and they are about 18 days old right now, so I want to get started on it right away. I already have the dimensions planned out except I'm not sure how deep I should build it. I'm thinking maybe 4 feet in half the area, then a slope downwards to 6-8 feet for a diving area. I'm also not sure what sort of filtration device I should use. I was thinking a uv pond filter fountain?

I have 4 ducks & we have 2 ponds a big one about 12ft deep & a smaller one about 6ft deep, we don't have it lined & we don't have a filtration system on them, just an over flow. The ducks like to eat all the bugs, worms, etc..... that get into the pond.

Does it smell like death when the ducks stirr it up?

Well the whole reason I'm going with a line pond is to save on water, so an overflow isn't ideal. I need to know by tomorrow how deep I should go. 2 feet seems deep enough for them to swim in but I'm not sure about diving.

Yes, 2ft would be deep enough for them to swim. My ducks swim in the puddles after a hard rain they just love water but as far as diving I would just dig it as deep as you can or want to, they will figure out where & if they can dive. They really don't dive in, they put their head under to play or to get bugs, small fish, etc.... So, whatever you make for them, i'm sure they will enjoy it

In that case, 1 ft would be deep enough, don't you think?

Sure if that's what you want, like I said they like water. I personally would go with 2ft but if 1ft works better for you then that will work

Okay, so I've finished digging and it's like 12 ft across, 8 ft wide, and 16 in deep. Which is about 1000 gallons. I'm looking at filtration and I just don't know what to get as far as how much of a filter I need. There is this one I'm looking at: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01CPL57KO/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_daZABb55F38F4
But I'm wondering if just that one pad of filter is enough? I'm also looking at something like this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0113PQEXW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_GbZABb09525B4
Where there is like 3 layers of filter pads.
They are both bio filters.
They both have uv light, however one is 13 w and the other is 9 w.
This is for 2 ducks.
I simply don't know what would be not enough and what would be overkill..
