Duck Pool Mess!

Hey yall!!:wee

I’ve got two duckies that love the water and I have a little pool for them but they make such a mud mess (with the water splashing and digging holes) and it kills the grass. This wouldn’t be a problem except their pen isn’t very big. I move it every once in a while so they get some fresh grass but then it leaves big dry spots in the yard.

I need a solution of keeping down the mud mess. Right now I have a wood pallet under the pool and thought it would stop them from digging holes but, they put their head right through the spaces in it and dig.

I’d like to keep the pool in the pen so they have access to it while I’m gone during the day. But if all else fails I may resort to that.

I hope someone can help! :fl

You could try constructing a frame of 2x4's with hardware cloth across it, the size of your pool. Set the pool on top of the hardwar cloth. The frame will keep the pool elevated. If you need more detailed directions let me know.

Oh thanks so much!! I’ll try hardware cloth across the pallet first and if that doesn’t work I’ll build a frame.

Thanks again!! :celebrate

Right! The palette will work.I would staple or nail/screw the hw cloth down, so it doesn'r shift around. The edges are sharp too, so making it flush with the palette will take care of that. Any water that seeps out from under the palette will be fair game. You might have to make adjustments before you get things perfect. You could try putting a small kiddie pool inside a bigger kiddie pool and fill only the smaller pool. The overflow water will sill into the bigger pool. This might work. The bigger kiddie pools are about 18$ at Wahllmarht. This will be the simpler and easier solution.

Great idea!! Thank you so so much!!! :wee

Id like to know if the pool inside a pool works, if you go that route. Please keep us posted! Good luck.
I decided to use some left over wire from building their pen and put it overtop of the wood pallet. It works great! Not as much water hits the ground and they can’t dig holes!
