Duck Sick HELP 911!

Thanks for the quick reply. Yes it really is trying to act normal. Since this has started I've put him back on vitamins adding a powder to the water. It has only been a day and haven't seen any improvement. I'm hoping it makes a turning point the longer its on the vitamin water. Is that nutra drench specific to birds or is there something a larger animal uses I could substitute. Our farm store doesn't carry specific meds for birds.
We can find you something at your feed store that will work or at a grocery store.

I have the same problem my duck shake her head and cant walk so today I will buy him chick food and antibiotic cabsul.onceIt worked with little chick, however many friends recommanded to change food and add suger or sult into the water.lets see tomorrow to the result.I will tell you☺️

Sorry for the delay I’ve been on vacation. So the mergie is still alive. It hasn’t made any improvement. Eats and drinks by itself but can’t do water swimming wise. It only walks backwards and holds it head in very awkward positions upside down, and on its back are common. It’s been on vitamin water and nutritional yeast with starter and mealworm. We are starting to think wry neck but don’t know. Oh and we have given a drop of tylon a couple times. If it is wry neck how long for recovery? How long does a person keep interacted with the duck? Hard to see it suffering is all.

Hello,
So we have 3 hooded mergansers that are about 3-4 weeks old. All were doing fine till about 2 days ago. We were doing our evening routine 2 nights ago and all were fine. Next morning I go to see them and we got one flopping around running around in a circle. The head was moving very fast and he acted like he had no control over the movement in his head like a bobble doll. We separated him from the others(who are still fine). However he still looks very tough with all of the head movements and still running in circles(more like flopping around in circles. We started electrolytes again in the water and nothing has improved. Has anyone seen this before? Any other ideas for treatment?
Hi,
Sorry I did not see t his post earlier. Ducklings and their food is short of niacin. Ducks need niacin supplements. So go to Walmart and by niacin, it comes in a capsule. I put in their water so I know they are getting it. You open the capsule and just barely put some in. I don't have a ratio as its so minimal. I just put a dusting in. In a day or two you will notice a difference if that is the problem. All ducklings whether domestic or wild lack niacin so this should be done for all duckling. I put it in there until they are feathered. Also if you notice a duckling walking funny or stumbling that is also a sign of niacin def. Maybe this will help someone in the future.
