I popped six eggs into an incubator on august 11th and I expect them to hatch on around September 8th. Today is day 21 and the two remaining eggs are trying to internally pip! I feel like one of them is probably going to be able to pip by tomorrow morning. What should I do? I need help asap on this because I feel like they may not be fully developed yet. One of the eggs is a little smaller than usual so it may be a call duck. Could that be it? Although I still think that day 21 is still a little early for a call duck too. I am not able to provide pictures right now but hopefully tomorrow I will get some.

Okay i believe that it may be normal but idk still i still want someone to double check for me and tell me whether its normal or not for it to start internally pipping by day 21.

Alright update even though no one is responding but they haven't internally pipped yet but they are seriously trying right now. Any ideas?

If you put them in on August 11th, they would be 22 days along now, and starting day 23 today.

Are you sure they’re trying to internally pip and aren’t just “shadowing?” Shadowing looks like strong movement along the air cell and generally happens 1 - 2 days before an internal pip.

I guess my math was wrong but they are trying to pip internally because they are making sharp movements with their beaks into the air sack.

Could you get a video of this? You can upload videos to somewhere like YouTube and link it here.
Sure it’s a bit unclear because this egg somehow decided it didn’t want to show the camera it was pipping lol

By the way, I wanted to ask if this egg has pipped already since the air sack is moving weirdly

Those pictures look fine to me development wise. You don’t have an internal pip yet, and those first photos don’t look like a bill pushing.

The air cell dipping like that happens along with the shadowing, also occurring about 1 - 2 days before an internal pip.

You can also check for an internal pip by holding the egg right up to your ear and tapping gently on the shell. You won’t always hear it, but any clicking or peeping heard is a definite sign of an internal pip.

I’d guess your babies are on track to hatch around September 6 - 7th..

I know they haven’t popped yet but it’s nice to know they are well developed :)
