Duck with Bumblefoot (Warning Viewer Discretion Is Advised)

Duramycin 10 (powdered tetracyline)

The 800 mg dose is 1.5 tablespoons per gallon. Trust me, I've done the math and weighed the powder. Ignore any post or reference that says that the one tablespoon is the dose.

Duramycin 72-200 (injectable oxytetracyline)

I researched this and found that the most common dose was ~50 mg per kilogram, which works out to 0.025 ml per 100 grams, but someone recently went to their vet and the vet told them to use 25 mg per kilogram once a day for 10 days, so that would be 0.0125 ml per 100 grams.

Never use any injectable unless you have a way to get an accurate weight of a bird. Additionally, given given the size of your chick, I would not recommend giving it an injection, especially with this medication since it can cause *severe* injection site reactions.

Please don't think I'm yelling at you, I'm not, I'm just funny about this sort of thing.

Ok great! I would use the powder kind anyway, because I wouldn't be comfortable sticking a sharp needle in a poor little chick. Is it ok to use with the vitamins, and for the other chick to drink as well? And how long should I use it, and can I get that at TSC? @casportpony I wouldn't have thought you were yelling at me. I used to be the same way, but I learned how to communicate without offending anyone. Some administrators ganged up on me on another forum and said I was "telling people that they had to do things my way." I never meant for it to come across that way at all, it was my first time being a member of an online forum. I was bringing in new ideas and techniques, and the admins didn't like that I was so young and helping the people on there, and all the feedback I was getting, because it was "their job" to do that or so they implied. After that, some of my posts were getting deleted for no reason. It was a smaller forum that the admins are more a part of than big forums, and it it wasn't for poultry. I left that forum and found something I like better, where people accept me, here on BYC. :)

Dissolve Epsom salt in warm water, I would soak it up with a fine cloth, like a clean microfiber eyeglass cleaning cloth because it's smooth.  Then I would dab the area around eye taking care not to drop Epsom salt on the beak - it is  a laxative.

Please note edit - not on the eyeball - just around the eye.

Ok thanks!

@casportpony, just making sure you saw this. Going to get the Duramycin today. :)

Just look for anything that ends in cycline. This thread is a partial list of "cyclines" that you could use:

Perfect! Thanks! So that will get rid of her eye infection? Can I use it with the vitamins and straight nutri drench I've been giving her? Is it ok if the other chick drinks it, and how long should I use it? 1.5 tablespoons for this one?http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00JN...ramycin+10&dpPl=1&dpID=41Jz0ETuXJL&ref=plSrch

Sorry about all the questions, I just want to make sure I'm doing it right :)

Thanks Kathy!

It might help with bacterial infections that sensitive to tetracylines. Problem is that many bacteria are resistant to tetracyclines, so it might not do anything at all. Another problem is that they need to drink enough medicated water for it to work.

And yes, that one is 1.5 tablespoons per gallon. How's your math? You wanna learn how to double check doses?
