duck with swelling beneath her vent

I don't want to scare anyone but it crossed my mind this could be a tumor. It could also be a fungal infection, I suppose. Just want to think broadly so you have something to consider. If it is a tumor, I don't know what to say except that if there is no way a vet could help, you may start looking into treatment options from alternative medicine. Fungal infections, there are anti fungal OTC topical ointments, as well as herbal.

For giggles, in humans, staph infections present with raised areas with a 'black dot' in the middle of them. It's usually where the infection has started eating the skin. I have no idea if this is what is going on or not, but thought I would put it out there.

I haven't felt an egg behind the area but the area is raised about 1/2 centimeter from the skin around and its not a gradual raise like a typical welt. It has an edge like a cylinder with a height of half a centimeter was glued to her bottom. I know that sounds odd but its the best way I can explain it.

We do have another duck but I haven't seen either of them pecking at that area of Peewee. I haven't even seen Peewee mess with that area either.

She last layed 5 days ago. We've been doing the warm baths for 3 days.

Thanks again for the help!
and she is still pooping with out any problems? could she have sat in something? just trying all kinds of thoughts here.

she is pooping regularly without any strain. my husband was thinking maybe she got bit by a spider or something like that.

Could be. So I am thinking, anti-inflammatory ointments, soothing ointments, maybe antibacterial to be on the safe side. And that could actually be something like spritzing a little saline solution or Veterycin on her bottom. I like the non-antibiotic antibacterials, because I don't think bacteria develop resistance to those. Like salt or medicinal honey.

Please do keep us updated. And, uhm, this seems so selfish, so please bear with me, but if you could upload a photo of the other end, it would be nice to picture who I am praying for.

Could be something like a spider or yellow jacket. they are bad around here right now my dog got stung yesterday. I think doing what your doing and following Amiga's advice about trying to stay clear of anything with antibiotics in it. I really like veterycin spray, it's pricey but would not be without it in the flocks med chest. http://vetericyn.com/ and yes please keep us updated.

I found there are two places near me that carry Vetericyn so I will start treating her with it tomorrow. Do you think I should still have her soak in a bath daily? She seems to really relax when she is in the warm bath however I wasn't sure if it's a good idea if it is an infection of some sort. The good news is she was still acting normal tonight. The inflammation didn't change any though and it did feel warm to the touch :( Here's a picture of my little PeeWee and five of my chickens. Thanks for all the advice and I will keep you updated!

Try the Veterycin, and I would keep up with the baths.

It would be good to sort out if it is bacterial or fungal, or something else. Some things, like oil of oregano (according to the herbal treatment information I read), could help with both bacteria or fungi. But if it's a sting or reaction like that, then something else would make more sense.

Thanks for the full picture of little Peewee. Cute chickens, too.

I wonder if an Epsom salt compress on the trouble spot might help, also? Remember, Epsom salt is a laxative, so don't just put it in her bathwater. Some E.s. in water, dip a clean rag in it and hold it against the swollen spot may do a bit of good.
