Hi there! We have two 4.5 week old ducklings that we just moved to a pen in our garage. Their diet is duck feed with yeast supplement added, grass, mealworms and grit. I went to clean their pen and noticed 2 poops that looked like cous cous. I couldn’t find any other threads with poop that looks like this. Thoughts? Thank you in advance!

In my opinion, it looks like the ducklings ate some sort of material; it does not look similar to tapeworm segments, or eggs. Tapeworms segments are smaller and often have a pointy end, also, waterfowl seldom are affected with such internal parasites.

Try checking around their pen for any objects, or material they may be eating (carboard, styrofoam, grains, etc).

Cardboard is beneath their potty pads. I have noticed the cardboard by their water almost looked like it had been dissolved but maybe it was actually chewed on? (pic attached) They’ve been on potty pads their whole 4 weeks of life so far and this is the first time I’ve seen this. The little white things in there poop definitely weren’t moving. I got a nice close up view 😬 i appreciate everyone’s input so much!!!!

I recall a member this spring with a similar problem, and they figured out the problem was due to newspaper ingestion -weird that the particles came out the other end in such a disfigured way, but it would be worth changing the substrate and see if the droppings discontinue.

Great idea. The cardboard is due to be swapped out for gym mats. My husband just mentioned they ate some newspaper the morning of the 24th and i saw this poop this morning (26th). I sent a pic to our vet and will keep a close eye on things. Thank you sooo much for your help!!
