DUCKLING CHOKING PLEASE HELP NOW!!

Oh gosh, I have a similar situation and I'm worried my 3 week old could die in the night. What happened to yours?
What is the situation? This thread is very old, and you may not get a reply from them. Can you post in the accidents and emergencies section on the forum?
Is the duckling able to drink? Can you feel an object in the throat?

Oh I should post there. There is no way I could catch this one, well maybe I could but I can't imagine being able to hold it carefully enough while it struggles to escape. It is drinking but looks like some of the water comes back up out the nostrils

This is a duckling right? That isnt too strange, as they may be flushing their nares out.
What leads you to believe it's choking/in trouble?

Yes a duckling. Because she is chugging her neck back and forth and sipping water like they do to get food down, but she had been doing this for the past 10 mins

Could you possibly record it, and upload to youtube or somthing similar, then link it here? Might help to see what you mean.

If you can catch her, have a very gentle feel of her neck, for any hard object that may be stuck, it should feel pretty obvious, so if you arent sure there is likely not a problem there. If she is calm enough, you could also check inside her mouth, but I doubt she'll let you.
As long as she's drinking okay, and breathing okay, I wouldnt worry too much, just keep an eye on her and she should return to normal.

Do you feed dry food, or wet? And is it availble 24/7?

Its now midnight here so they are asleep and too dark for videos. It just looks like whenever a duckling eats they tend to jolt their heads forward and back rapidly to help the food go down before drinking some water. Its just this except the food seems to not be going down, like she has just eaten too much at once and is trying to get it down for 10 mins. She sometimes opens her mouth a little just like she would to peep but with no sound. She is sipping but I don't know if its actually going down or just coming back out her nostrils. The food is dry crumbles in a dish right next to water. I found the ducklings looked like they struggled to swallow it if I wet it like porridge. They are fed 3 or 4 times per day instead of ad lib because they are out in the wild and 2 other duckling families come finish their leftovers. I'm feeding them because their mother has one foot and doesn't travel with them anywhere so I felt they needed a helping hand

That was kind of you!
so they are wild ducks, then?
I'm sure a slightly wet crumble, like a mash, would be easier for them to eat, as long as water is very close by for them.

I think it's best to let nature run its course, I expect she will be fine. The only thing you can really do to be sure is to handle her, and considering the full context of the situation, I'd recommend not doing that so you don't stress mama out etc. It's best to leave them be, I'm sure they'll be fine!

Check on them in the morning and let me know if things turn out fine!

Yes wild mallard hybrids with black mama! 2x black babies and 3 mallard colours. I actually feed 2 other families just to distract them from "Paddles" the 1 footed mama while her babies eat. All 21 babies from 3 families are multi colored, mallard, black and blonde.

I'm happy to read it may not be the end of the world and I'm positive trying to catch this one would have been traumatic. 1 of the families of 9 big babies all sit on my lap for their feed so i have the full spectrum here!! Its definitely a bunch of the food she chugged down without going for enough water. Was late back from town so they were hungry, was worried this would happen. I will pursue the wet food thing again like you say.

Well I feel like I can at least sleep now and hopefully all good! If I get up and find the little one struggling and looking lethargic I will intervene for sure as it'll be worth the disruption. Thank you!

Well it was all fine in the morning! Whew! Thank you for the reassurance
