Duckling dying? please help!

cottage rose is a great resource for raising waterfowl! I have used her advice raising ducks and geese and had nothing but healthy babies and adults

Thanks......I did lose one, but after upping the vitamins the others are all back to normal. Couldn't get any pure niacin or brewers yeast here but I did give them canned salmon. The vitamins have a good concentration of niacin too. My starter has ground corn and barley and flax meal and kelp besides the vitamins. I usually put ground split peas in but haven't been able to get any. Since rice bran has niacin maybe I should grind some rice and add it.........I could feed more salmon to balance out with more protein I suppose.

Sorry to hear you lost your khaki baby, Ekaufee. As for West Nile, both the vet at LSU and Storey's Guide to Raising Ducks discussed the disease in ducks. But, with Gaga it was a speculative diagnosis after the fact. Based on what I've read in this thread, it could just as easily have been a niacin deficiency. Now I know.

On the subject of feed, my naughty little Harlequins like to knock over their starter crumbles and help themselves to the big girls' mix of Mazuri waterfowl maintenance and laying pellets. Would this be detrimental to them? I don't want them to have problems like angel wing because their protein mix was too rich or something. But on the other hand, if I can blend foods in a ratio they all can eat, that would keep life simple for everyone...

The same thing happened to my 9 ducklings, I found out it wasn't that they needed niacin or any vitamins......they had riemerella anatipestifer. They all died. At that moment I didn't now what it was.
The infection got their mom too but I hopefully saved her giving her bread soaked in amoxicillin. She made it!

So sorry. please explain what this is.

Maybe its Riemerella anatipestifer. What I have read in all your posts, its exactly what happend to my ducklings. Give them amoxicillin.
