Duckling eating 1/4 to 1/2 inch rocks!

I would think that if the rock could fit down her throat it will make it out the other side. Gizzards are tough , if they can swallow snails and turn them into wet poop then there is no reason to doubt the magic that happens inside of a duck. At the rate they grow she probably more space in there than the trunk of a 74 Cadillac within a week! I hope your little rock tumbler mellows out for you.

Rounded river rocks will most likely re-appear at the rear end of the duck after a short time. However they won't be as clean as they were on the front end of the duck… ;)
Don't worry! Usually ducks know very well what they can swallow and what not.
(Styro-)Foam is the big exception, all ducks like to eat plastic foamy things, no clue why, and in most cases this will not end good.
Good to know!

someone recently here had a duck who swallowed a big snail and it couldnt pass the crop into the gizzard, it stayed in the crop and slowly the duck was dieing of malnutrition

They squeezed the snail shell back up the throat and out

So it is possible for them to swallow something to big and get jammed up, it seams to be very rare tho

How is your Duck doing today ?
She has been doing well since the incident. She is still growing, pooping, has a healthy appetite. Her crop always appears abnormally large to me, but I massage it regularly to make sure it is pliable. She has a slight bowing in her legs, that doesn’t affect her gate, but makes her more comfortable lying down than standing. I’ve been supplementing her with niacin and vitamin B. I’ve just never seen a duck swallow a rock of that size compared to their overall size. She’s almost 4 weeks. My concern with her is how impulsive and unpredictable she is. My Loretta is such a calculated gal. Nibbles, tastes, but never eats anything that isn’t food or smaller grit. ‍♀️

Protein and if feed is provided at all times makes a difference. Some love eating so the crop is always bigger.
