Tried candling it - could see general movement but no idea where beak is... Should we peel a bit of egg away where it has broken? But don't want to risk blood vessels... Hole is tiny and complete opposite end to air sac... Oh man this is stressful!!

Your farmer guy...he had these eggs in his bator and then you brought them home and out them in yours?
How long had he been incubating them?
Not too weird...your bator is completely different. So we got them last Monday and he said to lockdown on Wednesday and they should hatch Friday night to Saturday. He texted yesterday and said 11 out of his 12 had hatched. But weird that ours seem so staggered timewise?
This is so strange to me.So we got them last Monday and he said to lockdown on Wednesday and they should hatch Friday night to Saturday. He texted yesterday and said 11 out of his 12 had hatched. But weird that ours seem so staggered timewise?

I've never heard of anyone doing something like this before.
Getting already incubated eggs.
Have you ever done this before?
Is there a reason why you didn't set the eggs to begin with yourself?
My very first set of eggs, I bought an incubator from a local guy, 10 minutes from my house, with eggs already on day 12.
Do you have any idea when the current one pipped the shell? It looks like a nice good pip to me, I would leave it alone. The thing is, timing is kinda crucial here. Pipping the opposite end means that it didn’t spend the “normal” 24 hour period breathing the air cells air, so it could take an extra day to fully hatch.
The big thing to watch for is the area around to hole to start looking brown. You don’t want that. It should stay white to wet-gray looking. If it’s starts turning tan, keep a close eye on it. Try pecking on the window to detect movements. Browning could mean it’s drying out and can’t rotate. But in general, it should hatch just fine on its own.
Congrats on the hatch so far!!![]()
No. Turning at the end of incubation is not that important.Thank you so much! At the moment there are a few cracks in the shell and a bit of shell about 5x5mm missing so can see the membrane clearly and it's definitely white at the moment. If it did turn brown what should I do? Moisten it with some oil or peel a bit more away?
To be honest we're not sure when it pipped as it's air sac has always been small, it never drew down and we haven't seen any movement in egg for the last 5 days so we had sort of been ignoring it inithe incubator and assuming it wasn't a viable one
We did a last candling tonight before deciding what to do with the 3 unhatched eggs and then saw the pip. Weren't sure if the ducklings who'd hatched had done it to start with but then saw movement on candling and heard him peeping!! So not sure exactly when!
Because of the dates we were given we started lockdown on Wednesday. Does it matter that these late-hatchers will have had over 5 days of no turning etc?
