I have two first time nesters who lost all the eggs in their nests this year, one made a late second nest and eggs are starting to hatch. This is the first time I’ve found a duckling like this and it still be alive.
The mother removed it from the nest so I know she knows it’s going to die. It is hardly moving and moving slowly, so I believe it may be to late to help it but I’m still curious
Warning there is blood

Poor little thing. At this point he needs to be assisted all the way out of the shell for any chance of survival. Try and warm up the space around you as much as possible. You don't want him to get too cold or dry out to much. Set the egg on a dry paper towel. Use tweezers to very carefully remove the shell. Apply coconut oil to help moisten the membrane if needed.

Do you have an incubator, heat lamp, or heating pad?

I put it under a brooder while I went to the house for paper towels and tweezers. While I was gone it got almost completely out of the shell and out from under the brooder and sadly died. Eyes were half closer and closed the rest of the way while I was trying to warm it back up. I pulled it the rest of the way and it looks like it wasn’t fully developed,

Warning bloody and disturbing

Thank you. Sadly I expected most, if not all of the duckling to be like this, as this happened to all but two from the previous nests this year. Fingers crossed, for the three chicken eggs and four other duck eggs she’s sitting on
