Duckling skiddish and afraid of humans.

My 4 day old male cayuga duckling, lost it's male companion yesterday to sickness, and since then has been very skiddish and jumpy whenever I go near him. When the two ducks first arrived they loved interacting with us and playing and jumping all over us. Now if I so much as go to pick up his water dish he frantically runs away. What should I do to get him comfortable around me again?

Try placing a mirror in his pen so that he 'thinks' that he still has a companion.

You might also put a stuffed animal in with him. I'm sorry for your loss of the other baby duck.

Is there anyway you can get another baby duck to keep him company?

Another Ducky his age might keep him company.

Ducks are very social birds, they love eachother's company.. My male duck was incredibly lonely when his female flew off, he looked terrible. So we got him 2 Rouen females and he is now bright and happy! Try and get your Duckling another Duckling.
