Fran and Fabio (my adults) hate my new babies
But it’s too early for the introduction anyways, aren’t Fran and Fabio just precious though?

They are! But I was instantly attracted to the OEGB in the background. My ties are strong to chickens because I started with them.

That's a kind of funny picture. The black ones are huge in comparison to the younger ducks. But I love it.

So I did the math. The 4 huge black ducks are about 16 days old, the 2 medium brown and 2 medium yellow are about 6 days old, and the smal yellow crested and small black are a day old. Ducks may feather a LOT slower than chicks but man they grow really quick!

Yeah. My Calls even grow really fast! They already don't look quite like the picture.

Enter that photo of Fabio jumping into the pool in the EHAL Other Poultry Contest.

The 2 medium brown ones are Khaki Campbell’s and the 2 Medium brown ones are Fawn and White Runners. Not entirely sure on the black ones.

So people have said Swedish ducks and Cayuga for the black. Before posting I was leaning towards Cayuga. Their beaks and feet are jet black. I guess only time will really tell.

Or just black Crested. There is that variety. I'm not sure what hatchery birds are though. I'm not certain if it's the same thing. The show black Crested are quite spectacular though, and whatever you get, I am sure you won't be disappointed.

What kinds of ducks have the Mohawk ? We had one before as a free duck from the hatchery but we never knew what kind of was. We have Rouans but he got killed, he looked like a Rouan but with a Mohawk.

At ideal poultry they sell multiple different breeds that are crested. My understanding is the created gene is dominant but a double dominant is fatal? Not sure if any of the crested are completely pure or if they have bred it into their purebreds to add the novalty of crested. Either way it’s fun and I’m already partial to our black babies.
