duckling with leaking yolk??

Are they still alive? I'm worried they might drown. when you lock them down, candle them each day check to see if that liquid stuff isn't growing, if it is I would poke a small hole to release it so that they can dry up inside. But I wouldn't want to do that until then...

I just candled all of them and all 5 have movement and healthy-looking veins *whew*. Fortunately, just one of them has liquid in the air cell, and from what I can tell the amount of liquid isn't increasing at all. I had a late quitter last week that had a LOT of liquid in the air cell, and the air cell was already huge for some reason. I think those couple of air cells had detached during shipping and reattached with liquid on the wrong side, and the one I had to toss out was just too messed up to make it. I'll keep a close eye on this one, though, and if it does appear to be acquiring more liquid I'll do as you suggested and poke a hole so it can drain - the thought of doing that makes me super nervous so I hope I don't have to!

If you need to use a needle, just a SMALL hole, VERY tiny just so some of the fluids can escape but I would wait and see if that increases first. Send me a pic One day before hatching day, will take your current pic and compare the two. this will give us a better ideal..

Okie doke! Due date is a week from today!

Gearing up for lockdown! And good news - I candled this evening and found that the one with liquid in the air cell has actually lost liquid; there's only a tiny bit barely sliding around in there! So hopefully there isn't nearly as much possibility of the little one drowning. Really hoping to get 5 healthy happy fluffy dinos!

So what exactly can happen if the air cells are too big? I got distracted with kids and lots of other stuff this morning and didn't ralize I had forgotten to add water to my bator and it had gone 3-4 hours with no water to supply humidity. I live in ridiculously dry colorado and the incubator has a fan inside. I checked the eggs and two of them (the ones that were closest to where the fan is blowing) lost a considerable amount of extra moisture, One of them has an air cell that is now taking up somewhere around 30 - 40 percent of the egg! GAH! Does that leave enough room for the oittle one inside to finish growing over the next two full days?? It is still alive so far...

Good glad it lost its fluid but it may come back with lock down

It will be ok. I've accidently left mine on the turner and heard some externally peeping and was like. WHAT

Ok I will continue keeping an eye on it.

Oh my gosh that made me laugh! By the way, I don't know if you saw the other thread I started this morning but my incubator died during the night last night! I've got a major jimmy-rigged set up going on right now. So far they are still alive and moving. I'll be so sad if I lose these babies!
