Hello anybody.
I bought 10 Peking ducklings four days ago. I have a duckling with a lesion on top of its bill. One day one there was something like a hematoma at this spot and every now and the some other duckling would peck at it.
Below you can see what it looks like now. Does anybody have experience with this? What is it? How serious is it and does anyone know any treatment? BTW it is eating and drinking, but is a little smaller than the others. Poor thing.
Thank you so much for any help. Brigitt

Any idea how it happened? Can you post a pic of the feeder you use?

I had a duckling with a scrape similar to that. It healed pretty fast. I rinsed it 3 or 4 times a day and then put on Neosporin (without the pain relief added).

I have no idea how it happened, it already had something like a bruise when I got it and I saw the others once or twice peck its bill.
Did you rinse it with hydroxy peroxide? I have an ointment with neomycine for my dog, but there is no mention of birds on the package. Do you think that I could use it anyway?
Thank you so much for your reply. It makes me confident that this sort of lesion can heal.

I would put neomycin on it instead of peroxide. :D

Yep....Also liquid bandaid helps...Any place that sells Bandaids usually carries it....It will help it heal and keep out bacteria....just don't glue his Bill closed....

Curious, have you ever actually tried this? I really like the idea, but that stuff stinks to high heaven and I'm a little worried about the smell/taste from it. Just wondering how else it might adversely affect the duck.

I had one duckling slow to hatch, hung its bill out the pip hole and others pecked at it. The spot scabbed over and healed fine without anything, but it wasn't as drastic as the one pictured. I'm at a loss but hope it helps! That would be cool.
