Ducklings curling necks under them into a circle?

Yes, three now. It was a single one that started Sunday night and as of today three are doing it. They seem to still be eating and drinking fine, and moving to and from their heat lamp. Only 4 of the 11 eggs I incubated hatched. I kind of screwed up because my neighbor gave me this incubator and told me how to use it months ago and I have hatched TONS of chickens, but the ducks always have a poor hatch. Well she recently found the instructions and gave them to me. So this is the first time I took the eggs out of the rocker and let them lay naturally before the hatch. The 4 ducks that did hatch had pipped their shells before I laid the eggs out. I'm just getting really discouraged with incubating ducks. :-(
You have 3 precious lil charges so lets focus on getting them going in the right direction. Hows the 4th one doing?

Yes, sorry, my bad!

I think I would concentrate on getting them to drink as much as possible.

The fourth one is great. It runs around frantically peeping whenever I go near to check the others. So far I have added fresh water with niacin and a touch of apple cider vinegar to their water. As of right now only the one that originally started curling its neck is sleeping curled up. The others are holding theirs more natural and seem to be raising and stretching their heads every so often. I wouldn't say they look "normal" but they aren't curled over doing flips around the brooder like they were when I started this thread.

?? why your bad?

Kathy have you used niacin along with other vitamins at the same time?
My bad 'cause I got distrcted, lol.

I've never used niacin alone, but I had intended to, but by the time I got back from the store buying it and all the other stuff for wry neck, it was too late. As for vitamins, I've used Nutri-Drench and a couple others that rooster booster makes.

Sounds very encouraging. I am wondering if you should leave off the ACV though and just focus on the niacin. I'm not sure if the ACV would work against the niacin or not. Something to look into. I do give ACV but I don't mix the vitamins with it.

Okay, been busy doing my homework and I'm going to stick with the niacin ACV mix for this reason.

Apple cider vinegar is fermented juice from crushed apples. Like apple juice, it probably contains some pectin; vitamins B1, B2, and B6; biotin; folic acid; niacin; pantothenic acid; and vitamin C. It also contains small amounts of the minerals sodium, phosphorous, potassium, calcium, iron, and magnesium. Apple cider vinegar can also contain significant quantities of acetic acid and citric acid. It is used to make medicine.

I think the vitamin benefits of the organic vinegar I use will definitely do more good than harm. The ducklings seem to have improved a little more. I've been periodically dipping their beaks, and they have now drank almost 1/3 of their water. The one that was the worst just drank twice and is moving and stretching his neck around while standing up. First time today I have seen him standing and not stumbling backwards. :fl

Awesome !!! keep us updated and good for you doing the research about the ACV, I know it is good stuff just wasn't sure how it would react with the Niacin. great news though.
