Ducklings

I’m really nervous about my ducklings. If I end up with one male and one female is that still safe with chickens around? I’m hoping for two females.
Any tips on sexing at this point? Or just have to wait it out?

and good luck with your ducklings. A one on one situation may work, or it may not. I'd be concerned about over mating especially if the crested duckling is a hen. Two drakes in a chicken flock is a recipe for disaster. Vent sexing is the only way of telling gender at this age.

Oh no. I only have the two ducklings so I’m hoping for two girls I know my chances are not the best but still hoping!

You could order more females just in case from Mc murray hatchery!

It was sold with mallards. I did some research and it says they can get the “poof” it is just a genetic defect

It's definitely a rouen. The facial markings on rouens is different than those of mallards. Mallards have just one dark stripe running through their eye, while rouens have two stripes.

I did not know this. The feed store told me it was a mallard. Though the only duckling with the poof still. But not the first one they have told me the wrong breeding on either One of my chicks was supposed to be a barred rock and is not

You will know if it's a crested Mallard or Rouen once it's older because Mallards are about half the size.
