It was sold with mallards. I did some research and it says they can get the “poof” it is just a genetic defect

You will know if it's a crested Mallard or Rouen once it's older because Mallards are about half the size.

Yes they will be in the same coop/run as my chickens. Which is why I’m worried if they turn out to be males. I can always separate them if I truly needed to but of course that costs more money to build another coop

you don really want to house ducks with chickens for many reasons...
