Ducks and their treats - go figure!

Peas...no. Mine love Swiss chard and worms which I give them. Most of my ducks like apple peels and cores I dump in the compost. And for some reason they love digging the banana peels out of the compost to eat. I only eat organic bananas so I don't worry to much about them eating them but it strikes me as weird. Other then that they seem a bit picky. Ahh yes and slugs they LOVE slugs.

I used to cut up apples into slices, then half the slices and give them to my niece to feed the ducks. They will "tear" bites off of the little pieces to eat them. They were soft apples though, not hard, new ones. ETA: I have Muscovies too so they have that extra bit of bill to tear things up.

And cabbage is okay for ducks to eat? I know I cannot feed it to my guinea pigs and rabbits, so for some reason I thought ducks could not have it either.

WANNA KNOW WHAT MY BABYGIRL WILL JUMP FOR?!! BANANAS!! I promise you, if you walk around with a banana in hand she will FOLLOW YOU til YOU give up.
I should post a video of how crazy she gets when we give her some. its the cutest thing ever!

quick question: can they eat their own eggs? boiled? shell? ? thats insane! I did not know that.

Absolutely !

cabbage is like crack for ducks...

my little ones can hear a cabbage being sliced and they start dancing around and getting excited before they can even see the stuff. Lettuce too. Mine are also partial to cucumber slices. Throw in some whole slices and they will eat from the center out ward...looking like a donut. When the soft flesh is gone they go to work on the rinds and will finish those off, leaving no trace.

My big 'uns will trample each other to get cabbage out of my hand. Thats one of the best lures to get them to cooperate when they are being stubborn. I can mix meds or vitamins with the cabbage in the processor and they can care less what else is in there...as long as they get their lips on that cabbage ! They eat it whole leaf too. I just chop it to mix other things in.

yep...ducks love hardboiled eggs. They live on egg yoke for 28 days, so they are kinda used to it. Thats also what is a good source of food for a sick duck...Some will eat shells and all.

Just a step this side of being a cannibal quacker ..

I tired to give my ducks bananas this morning....the split them out. Even the ones that are usually more food adventurous. Think they didn't like the consistency. They spit it out and shook their heads.....gotta quit wasting foods I like on the ducks and give them their cabbage and weeds and such!

I've never tried bananas on my ducks, but they love grapes and meal worms and lettuce and cabbage and tomatoes and bread & peas.
