Hi guys, so I recently got a duck, I think it is a girl mallard and she has been very happy latley until now. She has been sleeping for most the day and rarely eating or moving. I love her a lot so if you guys have some sulotions that will be great. Thanks

Hi there, you need to start your own thread for better responses, also include diet. :]

Hi @Quack55 please start a new thread. Please include the age of your duck, how and where she is kept [in your house, in a duck house etc with or without outside time] what she is being fed. How long you had the duck before she became sleepy. Preferaby add a photo of her now.

Have you visited a different vet, or the same vet each time? It does seem a little suspicious (and expensive!) to have a problem each time you visit. Some bacteria is normal gut flora. Giardia is another issue, as it's a quite contagious parasite, and produces very stinky diarrhea and weight loss.

I would say the vet is taking advantage
How old were the ducks when you first got them ?
Did you ever add nutritional yeast to their feed if they were young babies ?
I give my newly hatched until 10-12 weeks 1tbs of nutritional yeast per cup of feed to help with growth
I also add it in the feed a few times a week for the adults
You could try this
Also do you provide crushed oyster shells to help with calcium ?
Some birds have laying issues and need the extra help like your one girl
My ducks are shy at the vet too
They get scared of anyone new
I raised one from an egg and the runner I bought when she was 1 from a farm, so maybe that’s why she is less hardy than my mallard! I didn’t give them any yeast, I didn’t know anything about this… will have to research. Yes I give them oyster shells, I’ll make it a regular thing too

I haven’t, I think any other special vet will be a huge travel! At least the giardia is treated now, but the e.coli is a bit frustrating

I Didn’t know with my first ducks either
But now I use it regularly and haven’t had any bone or leg issues
