Ducks - Over-wintering ducks hatched in the fall

View attachment 1950923 View attachment 1950924 View attachment 1950925 Thought I’d share the solution I came up with for keeping the ducklings from soiling the bedding every 5 seconds. I got a large hog pan from tractor supply along with 1/4x1/4 wire mesh and covered the pan with it. Placed two 2x4/ to support the pan, waterer goes ontop. No more soiled bedding!
Good plan! - Please tell us how your ducklings are able to sabotage it! ;)
Ducklings are true masters in turning a squeaky clean brooder into a stinky mess in no time. That's why they are so cuuute!

Sure looks like it. I like you water solution. The first week the chick water will work fine after that you should make them a waterer similar to this so they can dunk their heads which is very important. Also you want to put them on a form of niacin. Because chick started an grower doesn’t have the amount of niacin ducklings need. A better choice of feed would have been an all flock but since you already have the feed just pick up liquid b complex or Nutritional yeast. Liquid b complex can be found at TSC the Nutritional yeast at natural food stores or online. View attachment 1950933View attachment 1950935

how do I dose the niacin?

Oh gosh I forgot do y’all have TSC in Canada? If not another type of feed store should have the liquid b complex because it’s for cattle also.

I am in Arkansas, we have TSC

I have no idea where I got you are in Canada. Put in their water 1-2 ml or over feed. Once you introduce treats you can put it over mealworms or chopped tomatoes watermelon. But they need it for at least the first 10-12 weeks.

Thanks! I also read that I can simply break open a b3 capsule and dissolve it into their water.

You can main thing is to make sure they are all getting the proper amounts which is 125mgs a day I used Nutritional yeast on their feed at 1 Tablespoon per cup of feed and 1-2 ml in their drinking water. They can't od on this they pee out any their body doesn't need.

Look up Metzers website you can find the amount per duckling also Storey’s book of Ducks is another excellent place to find info.
