My pekin male’s tail looks like this and i’m not sure why. i was wondering if anyone cld give me some answers or insight. My male mallards keep pecking at it and i feel so bad. Any help wld be great. thank you!
It looks like that because he is molting, and the mallard drakes are pulling out the pin feathers. It may be necessary to separate him because I doubt that their behavior will change.
You could try using Blue Kote it works to keep chickens from messing with a wound on one of their own. I'm not sure if it will work for ducks but it sure works to keep chickens from eating on one of their flock mates. Because it covers the wound in purple. You may have to remove him from them until he has grown all his feathers back in.
