HI there. I have seen a lot of threads about ducks and chickens together, but I was wondering if any of you just let your ducks free range on your large pond? Would they go to it if a predator was around? And do they need water to splash in in the winter? We use a heated water dish for the chickens outside in the run, but would the ducks foul this for the hens?

Also, the hens will accept the ducks? No problems as with introducing new chickens to a flock? Thanks for any info.

Well, I don't have large ducks or a large pond, so I'll let other address those questions, but I can tell you that ducks do foul water, do need water in the winter (I use rubber tubs) and that new introductions can always be a little dicey. It's better if the birds grow up together. That being said, chickens can and do accept ducks sharing their areas.

My ducks do well in a 43 acre lake.
I built a floating house that they use. Since I’m in the woods, predators are abundant. Somehow, they do alright.
