I'm new to ducks too and loving my 6 Rouens. I'll have to try the frozen peas/corn as mine were also very standoffish. They are slowly warming up to us though and will now come up to the other side of the pool while I'm filling it, sometimes even up to the fence as long as I don't move too quickly! I'm just in the process of building their pen and duck house. What do ya'll use for your ponds? How deep should they be?

With mine you have to move slow too. My husband works nights and when he comes home in the morning he feeds them. He says they are waiting for him by the fence and walk to the food tin when he comes in sometimes they flap their wings all excited! I'm sort of the pea feeding/watering and cleaning lady...lol I have a lawn chair inside their fence and sit there when I feed them peas. They've been getting under it sometimes so I'm not taking it out,I think they've adopted it as a shelter area. As for my pool, I lined the old kiddie pool with our outide pool cover and fill it with water and they love it. I saw at home depot a system they have that you can put on top of one of their buckets and use it as a shop vac, it's about $22.00 so I'm going to get that and use it to clean out their pool and water with it.
