Duckwing Photography: Lacy Duckwing's Photography Thread

I recently got a set of softboxes, and to try them out, I did a photoshoot with my rooster, Vader (which yes, did lead to other birds getting some photos taken as well). I'm very pleased with the softboxes, though I will have to do some practice with them as they lit up my background more than I wanted. Anyway, here's Vader (Tribute's son):

My favorite picture of Vader's shoot:

The other two chickens, Copper and Bandit, didn't do as well as Vader did, so there's a limited amount here. First up, Copper:

She kept preening:

Copper also kept coming way too close to the camera, so I got a lot of shots like the one below. (I'll post her bloopers in a separate post. :p)

The next hen was Bandit, but right off the bat, I could tell she wasn't going to cooperate, so I barely took any pictures of her. This is my favorite out of them:

I did do one more hen, but I'm going to share her pictures in a separate post.

Amazing!!

This is Jasmine's (Vader's full sister) part of the photoshoot. I tried something different here and used only one of the softboxes for the background. (Please note: These softboxes have adjustable lighting, and for this photoshoot with Jasmine, I put the softbox on its lowest setting due to it being so close to her eyes. Then I edited these pictures to make it look like it was brighter than it actually was.)

Here's Jasmine (A Chicken Silhouette):

This picture is easily my favorite, as she is in my favorite pose to capture:

And lastly, her feet. (I take pictures of the chickens' feet in almost every shoot if I can; I just don't always share the picture.)

I hope you enjoyed these pictures of Jasmine (and the others in the other post). Using the softboxes were a lot different than using all the other lighting that I've used in the past, and even though they presented their own challenges, I am very happy to have them and look forward to using them again.

And now for the bloopers: Copper's bloopers. She kept coming to the camera (and pecking it), so it was nearly impossible to get a good shot of her. None of these pictures are clear by any means, but I still wanted to share them.

And yes, all these photoshoots are done on my kitchen counter, as you can see here:

That is all. Thanks for following my thread and I hope you all enjoyed these!

Wow! I love the shininess and contrast, and I love Vader's willow colored legs!

@Lacy Duckwing Hi! Is there any cameras you recommend for beginners that are under the 300 dollar range if possible?
Lacy will have thoughts on this as well I'm sure, but for 300 bucks you're better off saving up and using your cell camera for a while. The pickings are pretty non-existent at 300 USD unless you go used.

You can pick up Canon T100's for about 400 if you watch amazon for sales. Canon T7's are about 500, and this is the basics.

If you can find some decent used kit around, that's always an option. But watch out for scumbags and scammers in the used market. Photographers don't often give up their gear without reason.

I'm no photographer but my Google Pixel does take nice photos!
Modern cell cameras are better than my first DSLR in many ways. Granted, you're more restricted in terms of lenses and accessories, but it's fa more portable and versatile in a very small package.

Oh! Another thought, Gopro's are pretty cheap and you can grab high res frames from the video pretty easily. Maybe another cost-effective option @Noraaaaa

Yeah, unfortunately any far away critters aren't gonna look great because no zoom lens.
