Due the 22nd? Hatch with me!

chicken woman - So cute!

selinagil - I'm sure there'll be some intense peeping in a few days..

sandy sea - I have a broody on some eggs too! I have a little silkie on 7.. They should hatch sometime this weekend, I think, but she keeps trying to steal more eggs. She refused to move from our nest box. Dumb chicken..

I'm scared for lockdown tomorrow. Since we have so many eggs in the incubator, instead of just leaving the clears, I think I'm going to have to take them out so the chickies have room..

Oh, and Ideal called me this morning. The 14 chicks we ordered to come June 3rd are shipping Wednesday instead. I'm getting my brooders ready soon..

Thanks everyone for the well wishes.

I candled and decided to make room for chicks in the 'bator that will hatch.. Ended up clearing out ten clear/blood ringy eggs. They were ones that I wanted.

Probably more of them are dead, but I didn't have the heart to throw them out..

I bought a hatching incubator for "lockdown" (I have several different hatch dates going). Remember the humidity needs to be so high for hatching 64-70%, but not so much for incubating.

I spent the night making sure my temps were steady and the humidity was where it was supposed to be. The eggs will go into lockdown in the am on 5/19. My eggs will be in a cut down carton too. Also, we need to stop turning eggs today 5/19 for the 5/22 hatch.

Good luck everyone!

21st is my hatch date with orphs!

so excited!

I know its only day 19 but I am poking my head in all the time. You think I would have a life! LOL!

Hatch babies!

I'm trying to get everything set for lockdown.. It's frustrating! The humidity just won't go up. Stupid LG. Stupidstupidstupid.

I'm about to go kick out all my other chickens from their side of the pen into the other so that my broody doesn't get disturbed during her hatch.. I have no idea when that hatch will be, but hopefully this weekend.

I have an LG. Once I remembered to put in the second plug and put 3 wet papertowels in I finally got the humidity up to 65-70%. (This was in addition to filling the wells).

I don't have plugs. It's not my incubator, and they can't find them. They had a fiasco with a cat, and I'm guessing it got lost in that mishap.

Update: Got it up! Hopefully it won't get too high now.. There are no plugs in, as I don't have them, is that okay?

I dry hatch, my humidity runs in the 40-50s for the first and only up to about 65-70 at hatch. No biggy.

I've found ventilation to be more of an issue than humidity. Too much humidity without sufficient ventilation kills chicks.

I'm on pins and needles waiting for my new candling flashlight to get here - my old one died. Sigh of course. In the middle of a major hatch, so nothing has been candled.
