Dumb question about fertile(izing) eggs....

ok...have always had my hens with the roosters, however...

I have moved several hens to a new seperate pen which they can
not get out of, or anything in. The girls are laying.....

here's the question....
can those eggs be fertile? How recent must she have been
with the rooster??

I had always thought that once mated, the hen could go for
days (without the rooster mating) producing fertile eggs ..?..

so...anyone got answers for me??

I'm not positive but I read somewhere they could be fertile for up to 2 weeks.
