Hi all,

I am assuming the answer of this question is obvious, but m desperate so here it is! Can you give a chicken that isn't broody a chick? and will it take her of it? I assume the answer is no, but iv done lots of research and I am truly desperate for an answer. Thanks.

Can I make a chicken broody?

No. Unfortunately.

Some people try to do so by putting fake eggs in a nest, some try leaving eggs in the nest. But, apparently it is as successful as waiting on a hen to go broody.

We placed a broody (only broody for a week or so), into a large brooder with a private nest area. To prevent her from becoming non-broody (as had previously happened when she was broody and we moved her at a different time), we kept half of the brooder (included nest area) darker by draping towels over that half. The subdued lighting helped her maintain a broody state. But, she went broody on her own.

You can not make a chicken broody, but you an influence it. Give her a comfortable place to sit on eggs (real or fake).
Some breeds will go broody every time you want them to, others never will. What breed is your hen?
we have Brahmas, Rhode Island Red, and Wyandot.
