yep. Calm down faster that way than when trying to hold them by the body. My birds I will trip over when I walk into the pen but are not pets and don't like being picked up or held.

Also apparently holding them upside down actually helps them to stay calm. I've proved it a few times. It not my standard way of holding them though.

I hold however keeps the bird calm. Some like being held like a baby, some prefer to be free but perching on my arm, my roosters often prefer the football hold. Usually the younger ones are the ones that are upside down because they're still pretty instinctive and hormonal compared to the birds that know I'm not gonna kill them
