Dumbest Things People Have Said About Your Chickens/Eggs/Meat - Part 2 : Chicken Boogaloo.

Yes, my neighbors were complaining that their turkeys (four months old now) are not growing and feathering out right and their chickens are not laying. All they feed them is scratch and occasional scraps, and no calcium for the hens. You just can't make something out of nothing, whether its eggs, muscle, or feathers, people.

OK, I didn't read the whole thread but wanted to share...

I saw someone prank an unsuspecting diner by putting an egg inside a cornish hen and then into the full sized chicken. The person carving fell for it and was completely grossed out!

Makes me wonder... if I was caught off guard if I would have bought in.

I think that happens a lot, actually, even with dogs and cats and other animals. People will think they can come up with something better than those "processed" feeds and basically pull crap out of their butts about what they think the animal should eat. Lack of understanding of the nutritional needs of animals is apparent all around, as proven by the continued success of "Beneful" dog food and vegetarian chicken feeds, for example.

Ugh. People who fail to do research or simply cherry pick bits of recipies for animal feed irritate me. We raw feed our four legged ones and I've had a vet tell me I was going to kill my dogs doing it. After a lengthy conversation, he finally conceded that my recipie was nutritionally balanced but it's all thepeople that decide to pick and choose bits that cause problems.

Just to add I do work with a vet to make sure the cats and dogs are well fed on their diet :)

Many folks aren't much better about what they feed their kids. I always fed my kids fresh, from scratch, home cooked meals and neither were overweight. They both are still trim and eat healthy diets, mostly local/organic foods, no junk food or desserts. They just don't like that stuff. But, I've seen 1st graders (thin, not fat) whose mothers had them on diets so they won't get "fat" because "boys don't like fat girls". Or, second or third graders who "watched their weight". Honest! Not any better than overweight kids whose mothers feed them fast food or processed meals without a fresh veggie in sight.

I was going to say how can we be surprised so many people are clueless about their animals nutritional needs when so many of us are clueless about our own.

That's very odd. How can one randomly just decide what to feed to their birds without knowing about what they need?

Because they think they will just be fine on anything or so and so always fed their animals this and it doesnt matter :/

I agree. People are so stupid. Or like the dogs on vegan or vegetarian diets! I have seen that and they sell veg pet food!!!! ***! I saw this picture of this Lab once, maybe I will see if I can find it, and the person took a pic of her sitting, looking at her meal, with the meal in the pic, and how she was "excited" for her meal. Well people got so mad and all these people that knew about dogs were commenting about how her eyes were all sunken in amd not bright, face looked kinda thin, etc., basically the dog just looked sick, and I don't even know much body condition/nutrition even though i know a lot about dogs, but even i could see she looked a bit sick so having others say the specifics was useful. well, point being, the "meal" was literally just in a glass cake pan and it was just some mix they made up, it was like sweet potatoes I know for sure, and a bunch of other random stuff, but I think it was entirely vegetarian or vegan, and they "added supplements"/vitamins so she was "fine." And supposedly liked the meals. Yeah right, the dog was probably "excited" and "liked it" because she was starving. Also it is all she has and she is a Lab so of course she will eat it.... it just ****** me off.

But what really pisses me off is feeding CATS vegetarian diets. Both dogs and cats need meat but cats are obligate carnivores and really don't eat much other than meat/really need it so it makes me mad.

Pretty sure both can get really sick or die from this.

I understand why people want to be vegetarian or vegan themselves and have no problem with them BUT IF YOU ARE GOING TO GET A PET, PLEASE DO NOT FORCE YOUR DIET ON THEM. FEED THE BEST SPECIES APPROPRIATE FOOD YOU CAN AFFORD. Or do NOT get a dog or cat if you can't bear to feed them meat. Plain and simple. It is cruelty to feed them anything different and it really really makes me mad.

Sorry for the rant lol

Exactly!!! You can't just make it up lol and BARF and so many of the "homecooked meals"/"make the best food for your buddy" type meals add useless ingredients, leave out ingredients, some even cook the meals which take out key nutrients, etc. From what I've read Prey Model Raw is the best but even with that you have to vary the meat sources a lot and not just feed the same kind all the time. I thought about feeding mine raw and we will occasionally give him some raw things to eat but it was just too much work for me and I was paranoid about missing key ingredients. I head Taurine deficiencies are common or some similar nutrient so I don't want to mess him up. So instead we rotate between the higher quality grain free kibbles

I admit im addicted to junk lol but my parents did try to cook a lot but yeah. I'm just now planning on eating healthier because the last year or two I've eaten way worse stuff/almost exclusively bad, and gained a lot of weight, and feel just horrible so yeah. But I always do it for a day or two and have trouble maintaining the healthy thing.

Since it Fair season my daughter collects some good ones..

"What happened to your rabbit?" - they had the poultry near the caveys and she has Silkies..

"Are their eggs edible?" -- again refrencing the silkies

" Do you eat them?" when she replied no for the birds showing but yes for the feed store birds we bought..

" but they're like pets.."

My 12 year old "yahhh..."

Confused vegitarian " Well that would be like eating you dog! Would you eat your dog?"

12 year old in full sarcastic glory " Probably.. Depends how hungry I was"...
