Dumbest Things People Have Said About Your Chickens/Eggs/Meat - Part 2 : Chicken Boogaloo.

I got my chickens for eggs to try and reduce our food costs, but after reflecting on the way chickens are treated on meat farms and the fact that if you raise and slaughter them yourself you know they had a good life and died humanely, I've been thinking of keeping chickens for meat too. But my huaband was disgusted and said absolutely no way, he couldn't be with someone who slaughers animals. He also says he could never eat a blue egg

I knew there was the tan and white eggs because our meat hens would start to lay eggs before they were slaughtered. I had no idea there were blue/green/pink/olive/chocolate brown eggs until I got my chickens in 2015. Now I think white eggs are so incredibly boring and I'd miss the colored eggs so much now. I threw our last store bought "white" dozen out...who wants to eat those when we have such lovely fresh eggs. It's too bad that your husband isn't open to the wonderful possibilities. It's a lot more fun in color because you know who most eggs belong to.

I don't like turkeys, I was chased by one in college. Up over a hill, through a field with cows and down the gravel road all the way my drive way. The thing would not give up! Scared me to death!

I raised Broad-Breasted Bronze turkeys for a few years. When I would go for a walk, they'd follow me down the road. Yep, there I'd be, with my little flock behind me. Good thing we didn't live in a populated area at the time! They wouldn't coop at night. Preferred to sleep in the trees (or on any vehicle not put under cover).

The biggest problem with them was, they liked shiny things. They'd peck at anything shiny - eyelets on shoes, zippers, rings, you name it. And.... unfortunately machinery parts. We farm, and DH has always fixed his own machinery. When he takes the parts off, he lays them out in the order in which he removed them so he can put them back in the correct order. Well, more than once, the turkeys would spy those shiny things laying on the ground and run off with them! Therefore, we don't raise turkeys anymore.

Now I'm glad I'm allergic to turkey. I'll never be tempted to add them to my barnyard, lol
